A journey through the Balkans allows African travellers to explore one of Europe’s most diverse regions, rich in ancient history, dramatic landscapes, lively cities and cultures shaped by both Eastern and Western influences. This suggested 15 to 18-day itinerary covers Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia, highlighting the best of each country and offering a balanced, meaningful travel experience.

Days 1–3 – Slovenia
Start in Ljubljana, the charming capital with a pedestrian-friendly old town and relaxed atmosphere. Take a day trip to Lake Bled to enjoy its alpine scenery and the castle overlooking the lake—perfect for nature lovers.

Days 4–7 – Croatia
Visit Zagreb, the cultural capital, then travel south to the Dalmatian coast. Explore Split and its Roman palace, and end in Dubrovnik, the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” famous for its historic walls and stunning sea views.

Days 8–9 – Bosnia and Herzegovina
In Mostar, walk through the old town and see the iconic Old Bridge, a symbol of unity and resilience. Continue to Sarajevo, a city known for its layered history and cultural diversity, influenced by both Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian heritage.

Days 10–11 – Serbia
Arrive in Belgrade, a dynamic city with vibrant nightlife, the Kalemegdan Fortress, and a blend of modern and classical architecture. Spend time in museums and enjoy walks along the Danube River.

Days 12–13 – Montenegro
Discover Kotor, a medieval walled city with breathtaking views of the bay. Explore Skadar National Park, home to one of the largest lakes in the Balkans and rich wildlife—an experience that resonates with African travellers who value nature and open landscapes.

Days 14–15 – North Macedonia
Finish in Skopje, the capital, with its mix of historical landmarks and modern squares. Then visit Ohrid, a lakeside city and UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its beauty, calm atmosphere and spiritual heritage.
