Located just 16 km from Abora-Ahanta and about 62 km from Takoradi along the Takoradi–Elubo Highway, this sacred site is deeply rooted in local beliefs and ancestral customs.
What makes Egyambra truly unique is the spiritual bond between the community and the crocodiles. Under the guidance of the local fetish priest, libation is poured to honour the ancestors, and a live chicken is used to gently call the crocodiles from the water. This ritual is not a spectacle, but a respected cultural practice passed down through generations.
Visitors from across Africa are warmly welcomed to experience this rare harmony between humans and nature. However, respect for tradition is essential: Thursdays are sacred and the sanctuary is closed on that day. Egyambra is more than a destination; it is a reminder of Africa’s rich spiritual heritage and the deep respect our communities hold for the natural world.
